Media coursework group
For my A2 coursework, the group members I will be working with is Kathrena Odulawa and Jayden Balaquidan. In order to not make it bias and unfair when picking the groups, we decided to do random sampling to pick our groups so everyone had an equal chance to be picked. I am satisfied with my group as each of them have amazing skills and qualities that can contribute to creating this project. We decided that i would be the producer as i am an organised individual and make sure that everything goes stable to actually make the scene happen. Jayden on the other hand, voluntarily decided to be the photography director as he enjoys photography and being creative. We all decided that Kathrena would be the director as she believes she is suitable for the role due to her passion for film and directing.

Main image analysis (how it conforms to target
audience and institutional contexts):
This film magazine is Anime and Manga based, which
directly links its target audience to fans of this genre. This magazine does
conform to the target audience. This is shown through the images and colours
used in the front cover page. For example, Manga is usually linked to bright
colours and bubble big writing, in the magazine the Masthead is in big bubble
writing, yellow. The main image is two Manga/Anime characters, as this is
bright and takes up the most of the front page, those who are fans of Anime or
manga or simply like animated characters, can directly see that the magazine is
based on this sort of film genre.
Sell lines analysis (examples of how they conform to
target audience and institutional contexts):
This magazine may have competitors due to the lack of
sell lines, for example other film magazines may have more persuading sell lines
which can cause customers to buy another magazine rather than NEO.
Masthead, layout, use of colours:
The magazine I have chosen to analyse has an eye-catching
layout as well as a good use of colours. They have used matching colours for
the masthead as well as the main image’s hair, as the main colours(yellow) is
used a variety of times in the magazine, it gives it a house style. The layout
consists of approximately 70% image and 30% text. However, this is good in
terms of conforming to target audience as Anime and manga has many story boards
full of images rather than texts, Anime’s characters are also very known and
many people know how they look like, so the main image taking up a lot of space is a
positive aspect. The use of language is also crucial to the front cover as it is the first thing people see. The language can also attract a certain type of target audience. The language is clear and easy to understand, making it easy for people of all ages to read.
